2021 Pacific Crest Trail Update

On August 25th 2020 the PCTA released an announcement which leaves 2021 Pacific Crest Trail season uncertain.

At the time we were in the Highlands and so we haven’t really had the chance to digest and understand what this would mean for us. We understand that the PCTA have to take the necessary precautions and abide by local rules and restrictions, naturally we are deeply disappointed and feel that hiking the PCT is outside of our reach.

In prior years the PCTA release permits in two phases, October and January. Based on the announcement from the PCTA it is uncertain if permits will be released at all.

With the global pandemic wreaking havoc around the world and international travel restrictions there is a question as to whether we could even travel to the US, regardless of the permit situation.

All of that aside we are devastated to read about the extreme wildfires engulfing large areas of California, Oregon and Washington, our thoughts go out to those communities affected. As a result many of the National Parks are closed.

2020 has been a year of uncertainty with one knock after another with no light at the end of the tunnel.

Stay safe and take care.
