Covid - 19

Yesterday the world woke up to news that the US had announced a ban on travel from 26 European countries for a period of 30 days, this however excluded the UK and Ireland!

My heart sank!

Although the UK is not currently covered under the travel ban, the spread of the virus is increasing (here and in the US) and unfortunately I think the worst is yet to come.

My heart goes out to the hikers from those 26 EU countries who were planning to leave for the US in the coming weeks. Unless they were able to secure a seat before the travel ban is enforced (Fri 13th 12PM) it puts a question mark on whether hiking the PCT is possible this year.

I worry about how this escalating situation will impact our PCT hiking plans ... "what does that mean for our PCT hike?", "will we have to cancel our trip of a lifetime?", "will they extend the ban to the UK?", "for how long will this virus continue to spread?" ...

I feel a mix of emotions, angry, upset, annoyed, sad, helpless  ...

The world is in utter turmoil! There is mass panic with people flocking to the super markets to bulk buy on key essential items such as cupboard food, toilet paper and hand sanitiser. I fear for what impact this is having on those more vulnerable.

We have just over 30 days before we are due to fly to the US and a lot can happen in such a short space of time.

"Will we be able to fly to the US?"

"Will we make it to the trail?"

"What additional issues and challenges will we face on trail?"

"How will resupply options be affected?"

We sit and wait to see what this means for our PCT hike ...
