Wanderlust Way

Updated: Jul 15, 2020

With the lockdown restrictions eased, this Saturday we set out on the Wanderlust Way. We have been longing to get some miles under our feet for weeks, so this was a much needed day out.

The Wanderlust Way is a 20 mile circular walk in Lincolnshire which passes through quaint villages, woods, farmland and the Wolds (the only hilly area in Lincolnshire!!)

A little bit of history .. the route was once called 'The Bradley 20', however it was renamed in 1990 to commemorate the life and work of James Neville Cole who co-founded the Wanderlust Rambling Club.

We started the walk at Bradley Woods mid morning and the wind was pretty blustery, we also took a wrong turn 10 minutes into the walk ... perhaps this walk wasn't meant to be! But with a little persistence and stubbornness (from me mainly!) we continued.

The route map we found online was very basic and in hindsight we should have been more prepared, however we had read that the route was signposted, which it was, but we failed to pick up on the earlier signs ... wow we were out of touch!

During lockdown we weren't able to cover many miles, however I made sure to get out every day, to enjoy the outdoors and nature. It's amazing what new things you see when you are actually taking in your surroundings.

Like true day hikers we took a packed lunch (the best bit of a hike surely!) but then had to contend with the wind after struggling to find a suitable sheltered area. Are you like us and carry on to find THE perfect picnic spot?!

By around mile 17 on the WW we were feeling the miles in our feet and progress was slowing but I had a huge smile on my face and it felt amazing to be out walking a long distance again. At times like this it makes you realise what truly makes you happy!

Now to plan for next weekend and hopefully a long distance hike in the UK later in the summer, all being well!!
